Dr. Bill Fowler is a native Texan and a 1975 graduate of Howard Payne University. He spent the first 22 years of ministry after college, serving with Canadian Southern Baptists in Saskatchewan as pastor, church planter and instructor in a Bible college. He was on the original Board of Trustees that established the Canadian Southern Baptist Seminary in Cochrane, Alberta. Dr. Fowler met and married his wife, Dianne, in Canada and began his family there. In 1997, he moved his Canadian family to Texas and served almost nine years as pastor of First Baptist Church of Pleasanton before coming to HPU in 2007 to teach Greek, Bible and Pastoral Ministries.
Dr. Fowler’s children are Amy Tennison (husband Thane) from Round Rock, Jeremy Fowler (wife Ashley) from Carrollton, and Becky Fowler (a Fine Arts student at Baylor). He holds Master of Divinity and Ph.D. degrees from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Mill Valley, Calif. He continues to be active among churches, having served three lengthy interim pastorates while at HPU. He also served for two years on a Baptist General Convention of Texas task force to address the needs of plateaued and declining churches in Texas (a process now called “Vital Church”). He has a keen interest in the organic/simple church movement.
Dr. Fowler enjoys fishing and hunting, still loves to play basketball with HPU students and faculty, and is HPU’s most avid fan of the San Antonio Spurs! His “life” verse is Psalm 34:8, “O taste and see that the LORD is good!”
