Dr. Rusty Wheelington completed a degree in Visual Communications from The Art Institute of Dallas and worked in the animation/illustration field before he was called to ministry. He served as a youth minister while finishing a Bachelor’s degree in Art and Pastoral Ministries from Dallas Baptist University. He then went on to finish a Master’s degree in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1996. While serving as the Minster of Students and Missions in Bartlett, Tenn. (Memphis area), Dr. Wheelington completed a doctoral degree in Church Leadership and Christian Education from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He joined the Christian Studies faculty at Howard Payne University in January 2006.
Dr. Wheelington currently serves as a teaching pastor at Southside Church in Brownwood while also enjoying the opportunity to fill in on some Sundays at churches in the area when needed. He also serves on Southside’s missions team.
Having grown up in Texarkana, Dr. Wheelington and his wife, Laurie, now call Brownwood home. They have two sons, Caleb and Nathan, a cat named Kevin (even though it’s a girl) and a dog named Nacho. Dr. Wheelington enjoys spending time with his wife and sons, triathlons, reading and drawing.
