I played college tennis while earning my B.A. in history from Belmont University; my M.S. and Ph.D. in Physical Education are from Western Kentucky University and Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, respectively. During my first college position I coached tennis for five years; since then I have served as faculty or administrator at eight southeastern institutions, mostly faith-based, over the past 38 years.

I have been fortunate to serve in leadership roles in a variety of professional organizations and was blessed to be recognized as Kentucky’s College Physical Educator of the Year in 1995. My publications and presentations reflect a wide variety of interests: sport history, health promotion attitudes, and concurrent faculty issues, to name a few. My teaching areas include courses in our general education and core curriculum, and our graduate program.

When not in the classroom or office, I enjoy long walks and working out (land and water), campus events in which our students participate (plays, musicals, sports), travel (still waiting to get to my last continent), collecting (coins and stamps), and occasionally writing song parodies (with a health/fitness theme, of course). My wife, Judy, teaches and coaches at Brownwood Middle School. Together, we have eight adult children.
