Student Spotlights

Our art majors having been doing some very exciting things from traveling to Europe to winning awards! The following are some of these students:

  • Colby Compton (Early, TX) received an Outstanding Freshman art award in the Honors Chapel on 4/29/14. He also had an art work purchased from the annual Stars of Texas Art Competitive, Brownwood, Texas.
  • Michael Harmon (Brownwood, TX) was placed on the President’s list for high academic achievement in terms of his GPA.
  • Molly Hull (Brownwood, TX) was placed on the President’s list for high academic achievement in terms of her GPA.
  • Katie Murphy (Odessa, TX) received an Outstanding Senior art award in the Honors Chapel on 4/29/14. She also graduated Summa Cum Laude with a high GPA.
  • Emily Peisker (Cedar Park, TX) spent the Spring 2014 semester in England absorbing the cultural amenities of the UK including much museum visitation and having a full schedule of courses in London. She was also placed on the President’s list for high academic achievement in terms of her GPA.
  • Asiyel Smith (Fredericksburg, TX) received an Outstanding Freshman art award in the Honors Chapel on 4/29/14.
  • Cantrell Miller (Rochelle, TX) was placed on the President’s list for high academic achievement in terms of his GPA both fall 2013 and spring 2014. He has recently completed (April 2015) a visual program of disk golf graphic images for the Riverside Park of Brownwood, Texas. He has worked on this project for several months.
  • Many students had their work exhibited in the 2014 Spring Student exhibition held in our Dorothy and Wendell Mayes Art Gallery. The work was curated by our art professors from many of our 2013-2014 studio classes including design, drawing, graphic design, photography, painting and sculpture.
  • Amanda Quinteros and Megan Hoghaug both received outstanding art freshman awards; Cantrell Miller and Michael Harmon received outstanding senior awards at our April 2015 awards chapel.
  • Michael Harmon, a senior studio art major was accepted into the MA program in Emerging Technologies at the University of Texas at Dallas for Fall 2015. Michael will also graduate from HPU with high academic honors, May 2015.
