  • Tour the campus and residential halls
  • Dine in the Beadel Dining Area
  • Meet with a Financial Aid Counselor
  • Meet with an Admission Counselor regarding admission and scholarship options

Chime Out

Chime Out is a ceremony in which seniors pass a garland representing responsibility to members of the junior class. All members of the university are invited to attend. Chime Out is held on the Friday night before graduation in the spring and fall semesters.

10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 10, 2014

Important Dates:

Saturday, February 1, 2014 (Since February 1st falls on a Saturday, the deadline has been extended to Monday, February 3rd.) – Deadline to complete the Graduation Application and Diploma, Cap and Gown Order form (may be picked up in the Registrar’s Office).

Monday, May 5th through Friday, May 9th, 2014 – Caps and Gowns may be picked up in the Registrar’s Office. Registrar’s Office hours for the week of May 5th thru May 9 are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Friday, May 9, 2014 – Chime Out (the Office of Student Life will mail information to May 2014 candidates for graduation around the 1st of April, 2014.)

Saturday, May 10, 2014 – Commencement practice will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. at the Brownwood Coliseum. (Commencement instructions will be mailed to May 2014 candidates for graduation around the 1st of April, 2014.)

Day 1 registration days are designed to allow first-year and transfer students the opportunity to be academically prepared for the fall semester.

While here, students will:

• Meet with an academic advisor
• Schedule and enroll in classes for the fall
• Get an HPU student ID, e-mail address and other important student life items
• Take the Accuplacer assessment test (unless exempt via receipt of English Comp I or
College Algebra credit)

Students, please submit the following items prior to attending Day 1:

• $200 enrollment / housing deposit 
• Record of receiving the bacterial meningitis vaccine
• College transcripts needed for dual or college credit
• HPU housing application

Parents will have the opportunity to attend a question-and-answer seminar with important administrative offices, as well as participate in other sessions to help them assist their students in preparing for college life.

The Office of Financial Aid will be available to students and parents by appointment, which can be arranged at check in.

What is Jacket Journey?

Jacket Journey is the name for Howard Payne University’s new student orientation program designed to inform entering students about life at HPU and equip them for success. During Jacket Journey, you will be introduced to the accepting and encouraging environment of college life at HPU as well as it’s school spirit and traditions. You will also establish relationships with peers and faculty while developing academic readiness so that when Jacket Journey ends, your life at Howard Payne has begun.

Students who begin college in August participate in a five-day orientation experience. There is no cost to attend this program, so if you are a Fall 2014 entering student, please complete this Online Registration Form and join us for Jacket Journey 2014!

The Purpose of Jacket Journey

First and foremost, we want you to feel comfortable and at home in your new community. We want you to really get to know HPU, its purpose and its heritage. Jacket Journey is designed to encourage you to experience and develop school spirit and to understand the social and academic expectations of the university. You’ll become a vital part of the HPU family by beginning to build relationships with peers, faculty and staff. You’ll also become acquainted with HPU’s facilities, resources and services. Finally, we want your parents and relatives to better understand the process of this transition and the University’s commitment to them and to you!
