Howard Payne University, based in Brownwood for more than 125 years, has offered classes in the New Braunfels area since 2013. The university is proud to be a part of the New Braunfels community and has been thrilled with the center’s growth each new semester.
We look forward to eventually building a campus in New Braunfels as part of the exciting new Veramendi development project.

HPU NB Timeline
Spring 2012 – Representatives from ASA Properties and New Braunfels visit Howard Payne University and representatives from HPU visit New Braunfels.
Fall 2012 – HPU receives authorization from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to offer graduate and undergraduate programs in New Braunfels.
October 2012 – Dr. Dale Meinecke and Christy Meinecke join the staff at HPU and begin leading HPU’s initiatives. The Mission – to offer Christ-centered, quality higher education to the Austin/San Antonio corridor; The Vision – to build a full residential campus as part of the Veramendi development project.
January 2013 – HPU receives accreditation from SACS for Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree and starts MBA classes with 8 students
Fall 2013 – HPU NB starts classes with 28 students (17 undergraduate and 11 MBA students).
December 2013 – HPU NB graduates its first MBA student, Mr. Matt Morgan.
Spring 2015 – HPU NB enrolls 50 students and graduates its first undergraduate student, Mr. James Scardami.
Fall 2015 – HPU NB recognizes 17 New Braunfels community leaders as HPU Advisory Council Charter Members: Mrs. Gwen Arnold, Mr. Ken Fisher, Dr. Chuck Grear, Mr. Joe Guinn, Mr. and Mrs. Craig Hall, Mr. Robert (Bob) Knoll, Mr. Matthew Lotz, Dr. Brad McLean, Representative Doug Miller, Mr. Johnny Polk, Mr. Rusty Rice, Mrs. Tara Rousset, Mrs. Cathy Talcott, Mr. Thor Thornhill, Mr. Kevin Wartsbaugh and Rose Zamora.
February 2016 – Construction begins on new HPU NB facility.
May 2016 – HPU NB begins its Alumni Chapter.
August 2, 2016 – Move in to new HPU NB facility.
September 8, 2016 – Grand Opening of new HPU NB facility.
