Academic Testing Services
Howard Payne University uses the Accuplacer® to ensure that its advisors can appropriately place students in the proper courses in the key areas of mathematics, English, and reading. With your academic success in mind, we use this placement tool to determine whether or not students are ready for college level math or English or to determine if students might need extra support in the area of reading, an integral component of virtually every college course. Students will be exempt from any test for which he/she received college credit or for which he/she received credit on the SAT or ACT.
Howard Payne will also provide the Accuplacer assessment to students planning to attend other colleges or universities. These students will be charged a $15 proctoring fee.
CLEP (College Level Examination Program)
CLEP is a nationally recognized exam that college students can take to receive credit for some courses. All CLEP exams are now administered on the computer through the CLEP database.
Visit www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/clep/about.html for more information on the CLEP.
HPU Testing Services offers CLEP testing, by appointment, to HPU students and students from the community who are attending other schools.
Cost: The cost for CLEP examination is $80. Students who are not enrolled at HPU will pay an additional $15 proctoring fee for each exam. Payment is required to be made
in two separate payments at the time of the exam: $15 to HPU and $80 to CLEP.
We accept check, money order or credit cards. Because this is a web-based program, we are unable to accept cash as payment for CLEP testing.
Please click here for more information about CLEP acceptance and other earned credit options in the HPU catalog.
NOTE: Each college or university is given the freedom to decide which CLEP exams they will accept for credit and the minimum scores they will require for credit. If you attend HPU, please refer to the catalog by clicking the link above to see which CLEP exams are accepted here and the required minimum passing score for each.
If you attend another college or university, please check with your school to see which exams are accepted for credit and the minumum score requirements.
