What is Jacket Journey?
Jacket Journey is the name for Howard Payne University's new student orientation program designed to inform entering students about life at HPU and equip them for success. During Jacket Journey, you will be introduced to the accepting and encouraging environment of college life at HPU as well as it's school spirit and traditions. You will also establish relationships with peers and faculty while developing academic readiness so that when Jacket Journey ends, your life at Howard Payne has begun.
Students who begin college in August participate in a five-day orientation experience. There is no cost to attend this program, so if you are a Fall 2013 entering student, please complete this Online Registration Form and join us for Jacket Journey 2013!
The Purpose of Jacket Journey
First and foremost, we want you to feel comfortable and at home in your new community. We want you to really get to know HPU, its purpose and its heritage. Jacket Journey is designed to encourage you to experience and develop school spirit and to understand the social and academic expectations of the university. You’ll become a vital part of the HPU family by beginning to build relationships with peers, faculty and staff. You’ll also become acquainted with HPU’s facilities, resources and services. Finally, we want your parents and relatives to better understand the process of this transition and the University’s commitment to them and to you!
Schedule of Events
The Jacket Journey schedule will keep new HPU students busy and engaged in various activities from Tuesday, August 13 through Sunday, August 18. Participating in Jacket Journey also allows new students to move into the residence halls early, several days before classes begin. Click here to review the complete Jacket Journey schedule.
Meet the Staff
Jacket Journey is a student-led orientation program. Fourteen student leaders comprise the Student Planning Committee (SPC) which begins preparing for the event in November. Click here to meet this year's SPC. During Jacket Journey and beyond, you'll meet many more great students who'll welcome you to HPU. There are 44 students serving as small group leaders and approximately 15 "secret service" volunteers working behind the scenes to enhance your experience.
Registration
To register for Jacket Journey, please complete the Registration Form below. There is no fee for Jacket Journey, but we ask that if at all possible you register before August 5, 2013. Late registrations will be accepted, but those received on time will help us in the planning process. New student orientation is required for all first-year students. If you do not have internet access, please call 325-649-8305 to register by phone.
