<< BackFaculty Members Attend Human Trafficking Forum
Three Howard Payne University faculty members attended the 2011 Salvation Army Human Trafficking Forum in Fort Worth on May 20. Attending were Dan Humeniuk, chair of HPU's Department of Social Work, Sociology and Criminal Justice; Lynn Humeniuk, director of HPU's criminal justice program; and David Balkum, adjunct professor of criminal justice.
The one-day conference featured presenters from the Office of the Attorney General Criminal Investigation Division, an educator from TraffickStop and a lieutenant from the Arlington Police Department's Covert Operations Unit. The conference focused on how, why and where human trafficking takes place; the psychological and physical effects on victims; how to identify and help victims; and how to join or develop local coalitions in the community.
"The conference proved to be very applicable to the subject matter offered in HPU's sociology, social work and criminal justice classes," said Lynn Humeniuk.
