HPU alumna speaks to residence life staff

BROWNWOOD – October 3, 2011 – Howard Payne University’s student life office recently hosted HPU alumna Kerri Fisher ’03, who spoke to resident assistants and residence life staff on the importance of cultural humility.

Fisher had the audience on their feet as she led them in activities and told stories to help students gain a better understanding of how people approach those of different cultures.

“She explained that we all hold biases, but it is what we do with those biases that makes a difference,” said Larissa Leifer, residence director for HPU’s Veda Hodge Hall.

Fisher received her master’s degree in social work from The University of Texas and now teaches in Hardin-Simmons University’s social work program. She does similar presentations at universities throughout the area.
