Student Life

Howard Payne University is committed to the idea that a university experience should provide students with a wide range of opportunities for learning beyond the classroom. Residence halls, organizations, activities and social experiences combine to encourage deeper learning and growth in preparation for service.

The division of student life is comprised of the following areas: campus ministries, chapel, health services, residence life, student clubs and organizations, intramurals, cheerleading, mail services, new student orientation, student activities and student government.

Christian Commitment

At the heart of HPU is a commitment to be a distinctively Christian university. The university sponsors a campus-wide prayer ministry, weekly chapel services and weekday ministry opportunities. Revival services are held each semester, including Resurrection Week, the university's spring revival held the week leading up to Easter. Nearly 50 students participate in a spring break mission each year, and more than 120 students serve in ministry positions each summer.

Leadership Development

HPU's heritage and mission focus on developing leaders who view themselves as servants. Campus organizations such as Student Government emphasize the importance of leadership development. Service organizations encourage students to extend beyond their "comfort zone" to meet the needs of others. Students are encouraged to be involved in other leadership opportunities such as music and theater presentations, and non-scholarship athletics. S.W.A.R.M. Day (Serving With A Right Motive) provides opportunities for students to volunteer for community service projects. HPU also recognizes two outstanding student leaders each spring with its Nat Tracy Servant Leadership Award.
