GENERAL - HPU Places 21 On Fall Academic All-Conference List
RICHARDSON, Texas –– 349 student-athletes from 15 universities and colleges have been recognized by the American Southwest Conference on its 2007 Fall All-Academic honor roll. The teams were announced by the ASC office on Tuesday (Nov. 20) and include the sports of cross country, football, soccer and volleyball.

FOOTBALL - Jackets Make A Difference In Europe
The Howard Payne University football program took 22 players on a ten-day trip to Sweden and Finland in mid-May to play football against two European teams. In the two games they played, the Yellow Jackets defeated the Swedish club-team, Tyresö Royal Crowns, 41-7, and the Finland Junior National Team, 68-0.

NORTH AURORA, Illinois - Don Hansen’s Football Gazette released its 2006 NCAA Division III South Region Team on Saturday. The Howard Payne football team had two players on the list. Don Hansen is recognized as an expert on Small College Football across the United States. This includes NCAA 1-AA, Division II, Division III, NAIA, and NCCAA schools.

RICHARDSON, TX...Howard Payne University defensive back Sylvester Walker (Cedar Hill, Texas) was voted ASC Freshman of the Year, and claimed ASC All-Conference Second Team honors. Mike Redwine, who guided Howard Payne to a second-place ASC finish in his first season, was chosen by his peers as ASC Coach of the Year.

BROWNWOOD, TX...HPU had maybe its greatest upset in 2 decades as the Yellow Jackets upset #2 Univ. of Mary Hardin-Baylor 24-20. On a last minute drive, that went 8 plays, 93 yards in 1:08, and ended on a 3 yard touchdown pass from QB Adam Johnson to WR Brandon Tolbert with 2 seconds remaining on the clock.

BROWNWOOD, TX...Howard Payne Yellow Jackets rough 1st quarter leads to 32-6 loss in the 2005 season opener to UW-LaCrosse Eagles. At the end of the 1st quarter it was 20-0 UW-L which was the deciding factor in the outcome of the game.

BROWNWOOD - A former recipient of the National Christian College Coach of the Year award is the new head football coach at Howard Payne University. Mike Redwine of Olathe, Kansas will begin as head football coach at HPU on April 20, announced Mike Jones, director of athletics and student support services.

BROWNWOOD, TX…Vance Gibson announced his resignation as the Jackets head football coach last week to accept the position of head football coach and campus coordinator at Frisco High School (Frisco, Texas). Gibson has served Howard Payne for 13 years.

BROWNWOOD, TX…The American Southwest Conference announced this morning their All-Conference teams. Earning All-Conference first team accolades were SR QB Adam King (Amarillo/River Road HS) and SO WR Brandon Tolbert (Austin/Pflugerville-Connally HS). King led the league in passing and total offense, while Tolbert finished in the top two in all receiving categories.

BROWNWOOD, TX…In his final performance of his career, QB Adam King (Amarillo/River Road HS)threw for 232 yards and had five total touchdowns in a 48-14 victory over Mississippi College last Saturday. He finished the year with a nation’s best 3,680 yard of total offense and was third best with 3,252 yards of passing. These numbers warranted him his second selection to the D3Football.com ‘Team of the Week’.

BROWNWOOD, Tx…A 27-0 first quarter lead by the Jackets was plenty as they would run all over Mississippi College 48-14, for their seventh win of the year. All-American candidate, Adam King (Amarillo/River Road HS) finished his career with 11, 588 yards of total offense ranking him 3rd all-time in Division III. King threw for four touchdowns and ran for another.

Brownwood, TX…Juan Gallow (Abilene/AHS) and Adam King (Amarillo/River Road HS) would combine for 811 total yards helping the Jackets win a 44-41 shootout with the Wildcats from Louisiana College. The Jackets finished their 2004 road schedule with a 3-1 mark.

Brownwood, TX…Four costly interceptions cost the Jackets their sixth win of the year, as the Bulldogs from Texas Lutheran pulled away with a 44-38 victory at Gordon Wood Stadium. Shawn Wells totaled a team high 16 tackles (9-solo/7-assists) and three interceptions on the day.

Sherman, TX…Scoring in the final minute of play, Howard Payne (5-2/4-2) would squeak by Austin College (4-3/3-3) this afternoon 24-23, to secure their fifth win of the year. Football - BOLDON'S PICKS GET HIM PICKED
Brownwood, TX…A two interception and 10 tackle performance by the Yellow Jacket’s DB, Quinton Boldon (Lubbock/Estacado HS), in HPU’s 42-39 victory over McMurry, would be noticed nationally as he garnered his first “Player of the Week” honors this year. The American Southwest Conference (ASC Defensive “Player of the Week”), D3Football.com (National Defensive “Team of the Week”) and Don Hansen’s National Weekly Gazette (National Defensive “Player of the Week”) all honored Boldon’s performance.

JACKETS SURVIVE INDIANS' ATTACK
Brownwood, TX…After back-to-back losses to nationally ranked opponents, the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets (4-2/3-2) looked to get back on track Saturday, as their 2004 homecoming game featured the Indians from McMurry. The Jackets would find themselves chasing the Indians all day long, until Quinton Boldon (Lubbock/Estacado HS) would return his second interception of the day 58-yards to pay dirt giving HPU a 35-31 lead. HPU would hold on to a narrow 42-39 victory for their fourth victory of the year.

CRUSADERS' RUNNING GAME POUNDS JACKETS 62-24.
Belton, TX... A tough and much bigger Mary Hardin-Baylor (5-0/4-0) punished the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets (3-2/2-2) 62-24 in Belton Saturday afternoon. The #6 Crusaders gained a school record 609 yards on the ground having three players rush for over 100 yards. Adam King threw for four touchdowns and 428 yards.

COWBOYS LASSO JACKETS 49-26
Brownwood, TX…The nationally ranked Hardin-Simmons Cowboys (4-0/3-0) ran away with a 49-26 victory over the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets (3-1/2-1) at Gordon Wood Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Lance Moore led the Cowboy offense, rushing for two touchdowns while accumulating 96 of their 313 yards on the ground. All-American candidate, Adam King, threw for 435 yards and accounted for all three HPU touchdowns (1-passing/2-rushing).

Time changed for Mary Hardin-Baylor game.
Due to Mary Hardin-Baylor hosting Parents Weekend, the kick off time for the Yellow Jackets versus the Crusaders on October 9th has been changed to 2:00 pm. The original kick off was slotted for 1:00 pm, but to accommodate the weekend festivities the time has been changed to 2:00 pm.

Yellow Jackets switch places with Tigers
Brownwood, TX…With an emotional 58-45 victory over East Texas Baptist last Saturday, the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets (2-0/1-0) broke into the Don Hanson’s National Football Weekly Gazette Top-25. The Jackets are ranked #23 in the poll. East Texas Baptist was knocked out of the poll.

King "crowned" Best In D-III
Brownwood, TX…Adam King’s incredible performance of 512 yards and four touchdowns via his arm and 83 yards and another touchdown by way of his feet was earned him numerous “Player of the Week” honors. His stunning performance in the Yellow Jackets’ 58-45 victory over nationally ranked East Texas Baptist last Saturday allowed HPU to crack into Don Hansen’s National Weekly Football Gazette Top 25 poll at the 23rd spot.
