Howard Payne Univeristy

Stephen Lynn starts his third full year of head coaching at the collegiate level. Lynn was the assistant coach three seasons ago and the interim head for about half. In his two seasons playing at HPU, he compiled a .370 batting average receiving honorable mention all-conference both season while being named academic all-conference both years. In his last season with HPU he received the Yellow Jackets Award for best HPU baseball player.

Previous to HPU, Lynn played two years at Ranger Junior College where he graduated with his associated degree in May of 2002. There he earned all-academic team in 2002.

During his time playing collegiate baseball, Lynn also excelled in the class room as he became members of the Phi Theta Kappa (Ranger JC) and Kappa Delta Phi (Howard Payne) honors societies. He graduated in May of 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science from HPU.

Jerry Don Gleaton is no stranger to Howard Payne or Brownwood.  He has been an assistant baseball coach for the Yellow Jackets for several years.

Jerry Don has lived in Brownwood for 47 years “J.D.” left Brownwood High School and became a first team All-American pitcher at the University of Texas in 1979.  He was drafted in first round by Texas Rangers that same year and was the eighteenth pick over all.

He retired from his major league career in 1993, after pitching 14 years in both the American and National leagues.  Jerry Don scouted for the Detroit Tigers from 1994 – 1996.  In 1999, was inducted into the University of Texas Longhorn Hall of Fame.

Kasey Black - Student Assistant Coach

Kasey is a graduate of Godley HS. Kasey transferred to Howard Payne after playing two seasons at Ranger JC where he was a 2^nd team All-Conference selection. After coming to HPU Black was named to the ASC 2^nd team All-Division Team twice and broke the Howard Payne record for hit by pitches in a season with 18 and in a career with 27. He is majoring in Exercise and Sport Science and plans on teaching and coaching after graduation.
