Scott Owen, Chair of the Department of Kinesiology; Assistant Professor of Kinesiology; Certified and Licensed Athletic Trainer; Director of Wellness Center

Scott OwenMy name is Scott Owen. I am the Chairperson of the the Department of Kinesiology at Howard Payne University. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in physical education from HPU in 1994 and my Master of Arts degree in physical education-athletic training from Western Michigan University in 1995. In addition to being certified to teach both physical education and math in Texas, I am also a Certified and Licensed Athletic Trainer. My career began in Paw Paw, Michigan, where I served as a contract athletic trainer to Paw Paw High School. I then taught Algebra I and was the assistant athletic trainer at Palo Duro High School in Amarillo for a year, followed by two years as the head athletic trainer at Mineral Wells High school in Mineral Wells before returning to HPU.

During my 15 years at HPU I have taught a variety of classes in the kinesiology department. My primary interests are kinesiology, athletic training and sports medicine. I also enjoy teaching and participating in a variety of activity classes. I have served as the athletic trainer for volleyball and softball in years past and have been the Wellness Center Director for the last four years.

When not at HPU, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Kristi, and our two sons, Seth and Kory. We are usually chasing or following them to various sporting activities or trying to find a time to sneak away for a kayaking trip.
