HPU Women’s Soccer Team Breaking Record

By Ryleigh Watson | Howard Payne women’s soccer team broke a record of the most goals scored in a game on Sept. 13. Five of the players shot a total amount of nine goals during the game.

When a record is broken, it is something that automatically captures people’s attention and  impresses them. They want to know what record was broken and they want to hear from the people who broke the record.

It was a memorable season for the women’s soccer team. They had goals set in mind and were successful in accomplishing them, and even surpassing them.

Brandon Badgeley, head coach of Howard Payne University women’s soccer team, is proud of the effort put forth by the team and the results.

“We have a great group of talented players in our program,” said Badgeley. “They worked hard for each other and for the records, they knew what marks were out there for us to reach– and well they definitely reached it by scoring over nine goals in one game.”

Some may think about a game and believe only scoring nine points does not sound like a lot. However, these ladies play for 45 minutes straight to score these points while rarely taking breaks against difficult competition. They are constantly running, passing and sometimes getting hit.

Yet those conditions did not hold them back from giving the game their all.

“Every season in every sport is going to be different from the last due to people graduating and people leaving, but we had a lot of talent in this group, so it had its own excitement,” said Badgeley. “It was also the largest group of seniors since I’ve been here at HPU.”

With many seniors graduating after this season, some may wonder about the future of the team and what it looks like. However coach Badgeley is confident in what the future holds for the team.

“The future looks bright for the program. Our senior group has laid a great foundation of success for our younger players, and future years,” said Badgeley.

Howard Payne’s women’s soccer team had a great season, and will continue to push through and continue being history makers in the seasons to come.
