Students to Study Spanish in Spain

By: Jason Turner

This coming June, Dr. Danny Brunette-López, professor of Spanish and chair of the Department of Spanish and Hispanic Studies, is offering students an immersion experience to study Spanish in Seville, Spain.

This unique opportunity is set to broaden the horizons of our HPU students, add to their overall student experience, help them become better speakers and communicators in another language, and introduce them to the beautiful culture and society of southern Spain.

“This experience will absolutely be a wonderful learning opportunity for students, and it will help them become culturally competent in a new culture,” said Brunette-Lopez. “Additionally, our HPU students will have a chance to fellowship with their peers in a country of great historical significance with a focus on Christ and our university core values.”

During the experience, students will take two Spanish classes, live with host families, visit numerous important sites and monuments of cultural and historical significance, and participate in three main excursions to the beautiful cities of Granada, Córdoba, and Cádiz.

“Immersing students in a new culture and having them live with host families is the best way students acquire a language and understand cultural norms,” said Brunette-López.

Students can also plan and extend their stay to visit other important cities such as Barcelona and Madrid.

The overall immersion program is reasonably priced and will easily qualify as one of the best learning experiences students have during their time at HPU.
