Backpacks Down, Boots On: HPU students invited to Feels Like Home Festival

By: Kassidy Johnson/

The Feels Like Home Festival is an opportunity for Howard Payne University students and staff to enjoy participating in community events.

In its second year, the Feels Like Home Fest is a Texas country music and BBQ event, held in the heart of Brownwood at the Brownwood Event Center.

“It was surreal getting to see top country music artists and up-and-coming artists here in Brownwood,” said Katelyn Sims, senior global studies and Academy major from Cleburne and attendee of last year’s festival. “HPU students should take advantage of this phenomenal opportunity just down the road from campus. Go with friends and have a fun time!”

This year’s event will take place Saturday, Oct. 4. Gates open at noon, and music will continue until 11 p.m..

This year’s performing artists include the Randy Rogers Band, Pat Green, the Josh Abbott Band, Stoney LaRue, Bottomland, the Graham St. Clair Band and Joe Peters.

There will also be a secondary stage, sponsored by Pioneer Taphouse, that will feature The Cadillac Thieves, Ripken (a local band comprised of an HPU graduate and a current HPU student), Brian Pounds and Mason & The Mercenaries.

In addition to country music, the festival will feature barbeque sampling, food vendors,  local boutiques, crafts and areas for children to play.

Current HPU students are eligible for discounted ticket pricing.

Tickets are available at FeelsLikeHomeFest.com.
