The Baptist Student Ministry’s mission statement is “to encourage college students to follow Christ and transform the world”.
Howard Payne University’s BSM is a group of invested students who strive to share Christ and love others.
With several ministries dedicated to serving the Lord, the Baptist Student Ministry seeks to walk alongside students in their relationship with Christ. From free lunch on Tuesdays to small groups, worship nights and outreach events, the BSM works to keep the Lord in the center of every ministry while welcoming students from all walks of life.
“My goal as the director of BSM is to help students live out their faith fully during their college years,” said Bryan Pate, a Howard Payne alumnus and director of the HPU BSM since 2020. “Too often, students see this time only as a stepping stone into careers and adulthood, but I want them to recognize that this season matters deeply.”
The BSM is experiencing rapid growth. With 13 members on the Lead Team and 15 members on the Serve Team, the HPU BSM is larger than ever before. Each of these students has a unique passion for sharing Christ with their peers and the Brownwood community.
“My goal when sharing Christ is to just form relationships with others,” said Bethany Blair, a sophomore biomedical science major from Zephyr and a member of the BSM Lead Team. “I have loved being a part of the BSM because it has brought so many fruitful conversations about the Lord and who He is.”
Reaching and loving students in Jesus’ name is the priority for Pate and his team of young leaders.
“When ministry flows from a deep, personal relationship with Christ, it reshapes our perspective,” said Pate. “Everything we do is then motivated not by obligation, but by gratitude for the way Jesus has transformed our lives and by a desire to see that same transformation in others.”
