A Farewell to a Howard Payne Icon

By Mackynlie Conklin | Student life on Howard Payne’s campus has always been a key factor in the student experience. One person who has made it their goal to create the best environment for HPU’s students is Josh Snow.

Snow began working at HPU in the admissions office in July of 2013. Later in 2015, he transferred to the Resident Director of Taylor Hall as well as the Newbury Apartments, Finally Snow was hired as the Director of Student Activities in January of 2017.

“My favorite thing about my job was getting to work alongside students and getting to know them. I loved being able to spend time with students outside of the normal office hours in order to get to know them,” explained Snow.

The countless activities and events on campus have been a major factor in students feeling at home and being connected on campus. Snow had a great support system of students, co-workers, and his wife Taylor.

“Getting to work in a Christian environment for seven years has been something I’ll be forever grateful for,” said Snow.

Gretchen Campbell, executive assistant to the vice president of student life, noted Snow’s personality and giving heart. Snow is known on campus for being very personable with students and really working to give them a voice in the events and activities put on by HPU.

Dr. Nathan Penland, vice president for student experience, explained the steps that the Student Life office will take to ensure a good candidate is chosen to fill Snow’s role.

“I am currently serving as the interim advisor for the Student Activities Council. The search for the right person to fill the position is underway. We have several good candidates and hope to fill the position at the beginning of next semester,” stated Dr. Penland.

Although Snow will be missed dearly in his role, he and his family are relocating to Dallas in order for Snow to begin training in the Dallas Fire and Rescue Department.

“I’ll have about 14 months of training in the fire academy, EMT, and paramedic school. After that I’ll get stationed somewhere in Dallas,” said Snow.

Although this decision wasn’t an easy one for Snow, he understands where not only his heart but God too is leading him.

“I will definitely miss my coworkers, officemates, and the students,” said Snow.

We would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you and good luck” to Snow and this new chapter in his life. HPU will forever be changed by his work and love for those on campus.

“I am thankful for everything HPU has done for me as a student and as an employee. I will forever recommend HPU,” stated Snow.
