Fall Festival Brings Fun To Professors and Students Alike

By Madison Boggs | Fall is officially here. From the cooler weather to our campus-wide fall festival, there are several ways to enjoy the season. Student Activities Council member, Alexis Lively, shared a bit about the traditional Fall Fest put on by SAC.

“Fall Fest is definitely a newer tradition. It’s just a great way for students to have some true fellowship together, and just have a little breather before the Thanksgiving holiday comes up before finals,” Lively said.

This year’s Fall Fest included games, food, and a brand-new activity that engages both students and faculty.

“Every year that SAC has put on the Fall Fest, it has looked different. This year, we are adding the new element – “Pie Your Professor”. There are always different games you can play, such as redneck golf and cornhole. There will be some yummy treats and an opportunity to carve your own pumpkin. It’s a great time of laughter and fellowship,” Lively said.

This year, SAC decided to create an activity that included participation from faculty and students. The “Pie Your Professor” game benefits the Brownwood Humane Society. Students can purchase pies for $1 each and throw them at their professors.

“Pie your professor was actually an idea that I came up with. In the past, when we had Fall Fest, we never really had any professors or staff show up, which is kind of a bummer. As much as the HPU staff love the students, finding a way to get them involved was a big must. This year we had a good group of faculty and staff that participated. From the newest professor, Jordan Villanueva, to Resident Director, Zac Sterling. The best part is that all the proceeds are going to the Brownwood Humane Society,” Lively said.

The SAC has been busy planning our Fall Fest for a while now, and they all worked so hard to plan it for HPU students.

“The best thing about planning fall fest, it is actually student led planning. SAC meets and plans different events. That is super beneficial because if you help plan something, it is more likely that you will enjoy it as well as other students. Knowing what is going to be at a specific event helps engage more students because many students are like minded and would 100% rather go to an event their peers planned instead of something a professor planned,” Lively stated.

Students had a blast at Fall Fest. One of the most popular activities was in fact the “Pie Your Professor” activity.

“I think the biggest excitement was the “Pie Your Professor”. It isn’t every day that you can slam a pie in your professor’s face without getting in trouble for it. Not only that, but it also builds fellowship beyond just a classroom environment. It allows you to see your professors in a more comfortable environment rather than just as the person who teaches your classes,” stated Lively.
