To the Singles on Valentines Day

By Jordan Givens | No, it is not single awareness day. As cool as that would be, it is not. In fact, we shouldn’t even try to argue that it is. It is Valentine’s Day. A day of love.

“But, I’m single.”

And? It is a day of love my friends. Maybe you will read this and be encouraged or maybe you won’t, but this is the word for the day; Just because you are single doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate love.

To begin, your feelings about the day are valid, but it doesn’t have to be a miserable day. In the end it is just another day.

If you are struggling to find a love to celebrate here are some:

1. Celebrate the love that Christ has for you! He loved you so much he died for you so you could live for eternity with Him. I don’t know about you, but I’d take that gift over chocolate any day.
2. Celebrate the Love you have for yourself. How can we expect a relationship to work if we do not love ourselves? Maybe spend today treating yourself to needed alone time, or take yourself out for coffee, Watch a movie. Or (I think this is the best idea) take some time and read the promises God says about us in His word.
3. Spend time with your other single friends. There will come a time in your life, because for some this is just a season, that you may not get to spend as much time with those friends. Embrace your singleness. There is so much that you can do that you might not be able to do once you’re in a committed relationship. Be spontaneous, and lean on your friends.

Some ideas on how to spend the day:
– Travel for the day
– Go serve in a nursing home for the day, some of the elderly have lost husbands or wives and their families don’t come see them. They are literally very alone on Valentine’s Day
– Go buy all the discounted chocolate
– Watch the sappy love movies, or the super intense action movies (whatever your taste)
– Dress up and go out

You are valued, loved, and treasured by the King. Your worth and value are not based off your relationship status. Embrace your singleness! It is okay.
