Students pursuing degrees in Kinesiology and Athletic Training will be expected to demonstrate and enhance leadership abilities in and outside of the classroom and lab settings.
Practicums and Internships
All majors are required to complete an on-campus internship in either athletic administration, teaching, or youth ministry/recreational leadership. Some programs of study enhance this experience. Off-campus opportunities are available and must be arranged in the semester preceding participation in order to ensure for the optimal learning setting.
Majors' and Minors' Club
Offering a pre-professional extracurricular experience for KIN/ATR majors and minors, the ExSS Club encourages scholarship and service.
Awards and Scholarships
Students majoring in a program in KIN are assured of a competitive need-based financial aid award, full consideration for academic scholarships, and eligible for competitive endowed scholarship awards administered by HPU’s Office of Financial Aid.
HPU students can gain practical experience through working in the Wellness Center. Facility supervision, participant monitoring, and instructional opportunities enable students to fulfill paid staffing positions while gaining practical experience to complement their programs of study.
HPU Wellness Program
Designed for all members of the campus community, HPU’s Wellness Program offers a variety of opportunities for the enhancement of physical, emotional, spiritual, social, intellectual, and worksite well-being. KIN/ATR majors may gain practical experience in program design, management, delivery in the annual health fair and other offerings.
Leisure and activity opportunities are abundant in the city of Brownwood and surrounding areas of Brown County. Local parks, hiking trails, golf, tennis, fishing, hunting, and a full range of water sports are within steps or minutes of campus. Abundant sunshine, modest rainfall, and manageable temperatures contribute to a setting ideal for active lifestyles.
