Apply for Admission into the HPU Educator Preparation Program
Fall Applicants to the Educator Preparation Program:
- Apply by 1st Friday in October deadline in Office 106 in Newman Hall, located across the bridge adjacent to Brookshire’s
- If you will be completing at least 30 hours this semester, complete Phase 1 paperwork and schedule an interview
- If you are Elementary Education (EC-6) and are completing at least 45 hours, complete Phase 2 paperwork
- If you are Secondary 7-12 or All-level PE or Music and are completing at least 60 hours, complete Phase 2 paperwork
- If you have completed all coursework and are going to Clinical Teach in the Spring, complete the Clinical Teaching Application by the last Friday in August.
Spring Applicants to the Educator Preparation Program:

- If you will be completing at least 30 hours this semester, complete Phase 1 paperwork and schedule an interview

Background Check Information
All Educator Preparation students who are involved in Field Based Experiences must undergo a Texas DPS Criminal Background Check every semester before going out into the local public schools. All Educator Preparation students must undergo a national criminal background check before clinical teaching.
Teacher Certification is required of anyone teaching, coaching, or directing bands or choirs in Texas’ public schools.
