Dr. Christopher Rosborough serves as Professor of Music, Director of Choral Activities, Music Department Chair, and Chapel Coordinator at Howard Payne University. A graduate of Howard Payne University, Dr. Rosborough has devoted his career to music education and ministry, combining his passion for musical excellence with a commitment to nurturing students intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually.
Dr. Rosborough has worked in music ministry and education since 2008 and recently completed his tenth year teaching at Howard Payne. During his tenure, he has taught a wide range of courses, including Concert Choir, Heritage Singers, Heritage Worship Band, University Singers, Private Voice, Vocal Diction I and II, Choral Literature, Choral Conducting, Secondary Choral Methods, Private Conducting, Music History I, Music Appreciation, Service Playing, Worship Leadership, Christian Worship, Introduction to Music Technology, and Worship Leader Lab. Among these experiences, he especially enjoys working with choral ensembles and helping students discover how great music can contribute to their intellectual, emotional, and spiritual growth.
Dr. Rosborough is passionate about teaching within a Christian university environment, where faith serves as a foundation for his pedagogy and relationships with students. He believes he is called to help students grow both musically and spiritually while preparing them for meaningful careers and lives of service. One of the most rewarding aspects of his work is mentoring students as they discern and pursue their future career paths and maintaining those relationships as students enter their respective vocations.
Dr. Rosborough earned a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from Louisiana State University in 2016 and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Mercer University in 2012. He earned both a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Howard Payne University in 2008.
An active musician, clinician, and presenter, Dr. Rosborough presented at the 2024 Texas Choral Directors Association Convention on preparing a Lessons and Carols service in a small church. He has also served as a clinician for Small School Choir All-Region events in Regions 5, 6 and 7. As a soloist, he has performed Mozart’s Requiem with Chorus Abilene and Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, as well as Mozart’s Requiem during a concert tour in Vienna, Austria. His work also includes “Ketubah: Feast of the Bridegroom,” a lecture and concert exploring the Jewish wedding feast and its Messianic meaning.
Outside the classroom, Dr. Rosborough serves as Worship Pastor at Midtown Church, a role he has held since 2016. He enjoys kayaking and fishing, writing songs for congregational worship and folk music, and playing guitar as a creative escape from classical music. He also enjoys home renovation and DIY projects.
Above all, Dr. Rosborough considers his greatest earthly joy to be his family. He is husband to Danielle and “Dad” to Gwendalyn, Brent David, and Emery.
