Welcome from the President

Welcome from the President

Dr. Cory HinesJuly 22, 2019 – Since its founding in 1889, HPU has been a place where students are prepared for the calling God has placed on their lives. He has been at work for 130 years at this institution and, while we have a rich heritage, I believe our best days are before us. Our past has helped shape who we are as a university today and now we get to shape our future. Looking to the future, HPU remains committed to developing students academically, vocationally and spiritually.

My hope is that this university would be a place where each student can understand how the words of Ephesians 2:10 relate to them – “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (NIV).

Our campus community offers students the opportunity to do this, guided by faculty and staff who see themselves as part of the journey of students. God has given us the distinct honor to teach students in the classroom, provide them opportunities to grow vocationally and help them develop a closer walk with the Lord.

When I set foot on this campus in the fall of 1992 as a prospective student, I was welcomed and made to feel right at home. When new students step on this campus, they will know what I knew then – HPU is a place where they can feel welcomed, loved and shepherded. This is a place where professors care, where staff support students, where peers look to grow alongside one another and where alumni are cheering on current students to the finish line.

The HPU experience is an ever-unfolding story, from walking into the first class of the semester to returning for Homecoming with children and grandchildren. I look forward to the opportunity to meet students as they set out on their unique journeys and begin to experience all that our beloved university has to offer.

Sincerely,
Cory Hines ’97, Ph.D.
