Howard Payne /university’s Department of Criminal Justice offers a challenging curriculum emphasizing the roles of policing, courts and correctional systems, while keeping in mind the sociological and psychological perspectives of offenders, victims and the professionals who interact with the criminal justice system.

Students will take a broad set of courses covering crime, laws, juvenile delinquency, restorative justice, prison systems and ethics while working toward a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree.

Howard Payne University's Criminal Justice program prepares students for meaningful careers in law enforcement, corrections, the courts, public safety, and related fields through a Christ-centered education grounded in integrity, leadership, and service. Students develop a strong understanding of the criminal justice system while building critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills through practical coursework and personalized instruction. In addition to hosting guest speakers from local law enforcement agencies, criminal justice centers and conferences across the state. Each student is required to complete an internship in the criminal justice field during the spring semester of his or her senior year.
