Outdoor Recreation Complex

The ORC

HPU’s Outdoor Recreation Complex, called the ORC, is located next to the Newbury Place Apartments on the west side of campus. Take a look at what the ORC offers you!

Rock climbing, pickleball, basketball, soccer and more ...

The ORC features a 36-foot x 16-foot rock climbing wall, jogging track, basketball courts, and pickle ball courts. The basketball and pickle ball courts are open Monday – Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.  Climbing and other equipment can be checked out from the hut during hours of operation which are sent via email during the semester. Climbing hours will also be sent via email as workers are trained and available.

To learn more about the ORC, to reserve the space for meetings and other activities, or if you’re interested in a student worker position, contact Scott Owen at sowen@hput.edu. All students desiring to work the climbing wall must be certified in belaying and rope management by the HPU climbing instructor, Rebekah Sterling. Please contact her at rsterling@hputx.edu. Students interested in working non-climbing areas will receive an orientation to ORC safety practices prior to beginning work. It is suggested that students desiring to work in the ORC contact Scott Owen prior to the beginning of the fall and spring semesters to request an application.

HPU offers weekly rock-climbing classes for credit that are available at the ORC  on Monday nights from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Contact the instructor, Rebekah Sterling, at rsterling@hputx.edu for more details.
