BSM Takes Checking Up On Each Other To A New Level

By Ryleigh Watson | Many college students often struggle with finding community. But HPU’s  student lead group,  “Community Group,” is a place where true community really happens.

Students Zoe Sprayberry and Jacob Ruiz  helped created the group that meets in the Hub every Monday night at 9 p.m.

“Community group at the BSM is something that builds a community and gives support to each other spiritually also,” said Sprayberry, a junior from Bonhman. This community group was fully set up by two students who wanted to make HPU a place where everyone feels included.

“Jacob Ruiz and I lead it and we started it as a way to give support to our fellow classmates spiritually and to their well being as well,” Sprayberry added.

Sprayberry and Ruiz believe that everyone needs a place to destress and put all their problems aside to hang up and hang out with people who know what they are feeling and what they are currently going through.

Sprayberry said she needed a community like this, so it’s been good for her, too.

“I was so happy to help start this, because not only did I want to make a community for others but I needed one for myself,” she said.

During this time this group takes time to check in on each other.

Usually we will check on each other and how our week went. Take prayer requests, and then discuss what we have been dealing with this week spiritually or personally,” said Sprayberry.

The Community Group is open to all students.
