Fall Break Provides Hiatus from Class

As the semester reaches the halfway mark for the 2023 fall semester and midterms start to come to an end, many students and faculty members are mentally exhausted and just need time to relax and reset before preparations for final exams start. That is why, unlike some colleges, Howard Payne University had a fall break.

Finals preparation is tough on everybody and can be quite stressful especially for the professors, which is why the university gives their students and faculty this four-day break that grants them some much needed down-time to recuperate and get all their energy back before they go into the final stretch of the semester. Students need a little opportunity to hang out with their friends and/or family and get away from the persistent assignments and tests that they receive during the year.

Dr. Nancy Romig, assistant professor of English, said that fall break is a time where everyone can take a break from the stress.

“Fall break is a time where students can just take some weight off and not have to worry about school, especially right after finishing midterms, and the energy is low, and they are going to be a bit stressed, which is why this break is given to the faculty and students,” said Romig.

People around campus had many different plans about what they did for their break. However, just because it is given to every student at university, doesn’t mean that they get a break from everything. For example, the HPU football team prepared for upcoming games, and volleyball, and men’s and women’s basketball teams had practice during the extended weekend.

Fall Break was different for everybody; regardless, it is still a way for students to completely forget about school for a little and have some time for themselves and to do what they want.
