From Hobby to Business: Nail Tech Thrives at HPU

By: Jessie Howard

Here at Howard Payne University, a small nail business is making a big impression. What began as a casual part-time hobby has quickly grown into a popular campus service, with appointments selling out and a waitlist steadily forming.

Sharron Herra, freshman jurisprudence major from Fort Worth, is the owner of a nail business operating right on campus. She originally started doing nails just for fun, practicing on herself and her sister. Everything changed in September when Sharron did a close friend’s nails. That friend encouraged her to create an Instagram page to showcase her work—and the business took off from there.

By October, Sharron launched her Instagram account, @nailed.it.bysharron. After only a few posts, her following began to grow, and so did the demand for her services. Sharron regularly posts photos of her completed nail sets, which has helped attract new clients and keep her schedule full. She currently offers three pricing tiers, with costs varying depending on the design and service requested.

Sharron said, “I have always liked doing nails, and before I would only do it on my sister or myself. So, coming here, there’s a lot more girls that I’m able to do their nails for. I’ve really enjoyed getting to practice more and be more creative with that.”

Today, Sharron stays busy booking appointments for fellow students. Anyone interested in getting their nails done should plan ahead—appointments fill up quickly, and openings are limited.

To schedule a nail appointment, visit @nailed.it.bysharron on Instagram, or catch Sharron around campus.
