HPU Raises Student Worker Pay

By Emily Hughitt | Howard Payne University recently raised the student worker pay from $7.25 an hour to $8 an hour. This change went into effect on January 1, 2023. Director of Human Resources, Katrina Lynn said she believes this will help students feel more important in their jobs.

“I hope it helps students know how much they are appreciated on the campus. The work they do, is vital in our offices,” said Lynn.

The student worker jobs give students valuable life and professional experience that they will be able to use in the future.

“Due to opportunities they receive as students here at HPU, we know the next generation is entering the workforce prepared and capable no matter what the future holds,” said Lynn.

Freshman Mathematics Education major and Campus Math Tutor Braelynn Askew said her student worker job helps her learn more about her future career.

“My job is helping me understand the differences in everyone’s learning curves,” said Askew. “I believe that will be very handy to me as a math teacher.”

Lynn and Chief Financial Officer Mike Rodgers worked together to decide on the pay raise for students.

“Student workers are an integral part of campus life,” said Lynn. “We are pleased to have the opportunity to increase student worker wages.”

The pay raise is already helping students have adequate time to make a living at their jobs and still have time to study and have fun.

“The pay raise allowed me to be able to work a few less hours, but still make enough money for gas and groceries,” said Askew.
