Peer Tutoring Offered in Library

By Katie Cravey | The HPU Peer Tutoring Center is a free service available to all students. The service is open from 5 p.m. – 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday in the library.

Students who wish to utilize this service can go into the multipurpose lab on the right side of the library during the allotted times. The tutors will wear name tags that will also say what subject they tutor. The tutors are specialized in math, English, chemistry, and Spanish.

The tutoring services are set up as walk-ins, however, if a student is unable to make it to the tutoring hours they can schedule an appointment for another time that works best for them and the tutor.

The tutoring center is staffed by qualified HPU students who are motivated to help their classmates reach their academic goals.

Makayla De Leon, a sophomore Mathematics Secondary Education major loves assisting her peers as a tutor.

“Through being a math tutor, I have learned how effective peer-tutoring is, and students should never hesitate or be afraid to come in and ask for help. All tutors are happy to help in the best way they can to assist the students in understanding their subject and working independently,” shared De Leon.

Chelsey Harris, a junior management major understands it can be hard to ask for help but encourages everyone to do so since many of the tutors have been in the same position as their classmates who are seeking help before.

“My freshman year, I was in tutorials almost every day finding ways to help me learn and understand my work better. At the end of the semester it paid off, I finished with a high A in my class, and now I am blessed to help other students achieve the same goals,” said Harris.
