Homeschool Students At HPU

Welcome Homeschool Students!

Howard Payne University is excited to welcome homeschool students to our campus. Since the university’s founding in 1889, the institution’s priorities have remained unchanged. HPU’s vibrant academic community allows students to learn and grow while remaining true to the values instilled in them during their homeschool careers. With ample opportunities for service, leadership and fun, HPU prides itself on fostering a close, distinctively Christian community where personal connection is valued.

Read the stories below to learn about what a few homeschool students’ have experienced as part of the HPU community.

A second family

“HPU is a fantastic school and has really impacted my life in a positive way. The community here is absolutely incredible and creates an environment for students to grow toward Christ in a family-oriented way. Family is important to me and, here at HPU, I have found a second family. It is a place that I can thrive in and call home. I’ve never once felt out of place having had a homeschool background and would highly recommend this school to everyone – not just homeschoolers.”

Christian Community

“I enjoy the Christian community that HPU provides, as well as the many opportunities it brings – including music, theatre, sororities, fraternities and the Baptist Student Ministry. The attentiveness of the professors, as well as their willingness to help me succeed both academically and spiritually, has caused me to grow in many positive ways. The community of HPU has made this university a place I can freely call home.”

At Home Here

“I came to HPU because I feel at home here. As I’ve been connected to the community, I’ve made amazing friends who are like-minded and have encouraged me in growing deeper in my relationship with Christ. I am a part of the Guy D. Newman Honors Academy, which challenges me academically and gives me a variety of leadership and educational opportunities. As someone who loves to learn, I appreciate how my professors are personable with me and make time to help me do my best in school and in life.”

Where I belong

“At first, it was frightening to be away from my family, but I soon began to feel like this was a place where I belonged. Because HPU is a small school, I have been able to get to know my professors personally and ask any question without being drowned out by hundreds of other students. The HPU Department of Theatre has given me many opportunities to improve my skills and expand my repertoire as an actor. I value most the opportunities to help entertain people on the stage and to honor God with the gift He has given me.”
