Merit Scholarships
Students may only receive one scholarship listed in this section. For all scholarships, students must remain continuously enrolled in fall and spring semesters and maintain satisfactory academic progress toward a degree to continue to receive the award. All scholarship awards are for tuition only at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas.
Visit Scholarship - $250*

The campus visit scholarship is awarded to first-year and transfer students who visit our main campus. This scholarship is for tuition only at our Brownwood, TX campus and may be combined with other scholarships.Â

The Sumners Scholarship
Thanks to the generosity of the Sumners Foundation, rising juniors (students who have completed ~60 semester hours at the end of the spring semester) at HPU interested and invested in civic engagement and leadership may apply for admission into a highly competitive and richly rewarding scholarship program (Source). Heart of Texas Scholarship
HPU offers the Heart of Texas Scholarship to graduates from area high schools and home schools. This scholarship is for tuition only at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. Use the link below to learn more.Â
Central Texas Scholarship* – $500**
This scholarship is awarded to first-year and transfer students who are unconditionally admitted to HPU and graduated from a high school or transferring from a college/university in one of the following counties: Bell, Blanco, Bosque, Burnet, Coke, Concho, Coryell, Erath, Fisher, Gillespie, Hamilton, Hill, Hood, Johnson, Jones, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Lampasas, Llano, Mason, McLennan, Menard, Nolan, Palo Pinto, Runnels, Schleicher, Shackelford, Somervell, Stephens, Sutton, Taylor, Tom Green, Travis and Williamson counties. This scholarship is for tuition only at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas.

Legacy Scholarship* – $500**
This scholarship is awarded to students who are unconditionally admitted and whose parent or grandparent graduated from Howard Payne University. This scholarship is for tuition only at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas.

**Semester Award
Church Match Scholarship Program
This scholarship program applies to full and part-time graduate and undergraduate students enrolled at Howard Payne. HPU will match any gift from student’s church up to $3,500 per academic year.
Baptist Ministerial
Dependent Scholarship – $750*
An application must be obtained from and approved by the dean of the School of Christian Studies (325-649-8403) prior to the first semester’s registration period. Renewal review occurs annually.Â

This scholarship program applies to full time undergraduate Hispanic students enrolled at Howard Payne University Brownwood Campus. Each scholarship listed will have the criteria listed next to it. Applicant will put a check in the box(es) next to the scholarship(s) they are eligible to apply for.
HPU Sibling Grant – $500*
Full-time students at HPU who have one or more siblings also enrolled at HPU full-time will qualify. Siblings must be from the same household. Awards are considered on a semester-by-semester basis. This scholarship is for tuition only at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas.

Homeschool Scholarship – $250*
This scholarship is awarded to first-year and transfer students who are unconditionally admitted to HPU and are homeschool graduates.

Criminal Justice Scholarships
The Criminal Justice Scholarships are available to full time students enrolled in the Criminal Justice program leading to a degree at Howard Payne University.

Organization Matching Scholarship Program
Howard Payne University now provides organization-matching scholarships starting with the Summer 2025 academic semester. This scholarship program is available exclusively to individual organizations. The qualifying student must be an active employee or an employee on study leave with the organization that is providing the scholarship. According to this policy, scholarships are confined to a $2,000 HPU match per academic year for each student.
