Exploring the Great Outdoors in Brownwood

Being outside has so many benefits and college students sometimes may not get to take advantage of those benefits. Students tend to focus on classes, jobs, sports, and their social lives, and they may not focus enough on fun outdoor activities. Plus, if they just moved to a new town for college they may not know where to go or what to do for their outdoor fun in their new town. So, here’s a list of the best things to do outdoors in Brownwood!

Riverside Park

Riverside Park is a popular place in Brownwood. From the walking trail to the playground and everything in between, Riverside has become a Brownwood staple. Lots of Brownwood/Early residents utilize Riverside for their daily walks or trips with the kids to the playground, many use the nature trails or kayak in the Pecan Bayou. Riverside is a great place to soak up the sun, take in the views, and get in your daily exercise. There is a boat ramp and park visitors often fish from the banks and on kayaks and small boats. The park features a large playground area, an 18-hole disc golf course, sand volleyball court, boat ramp, nature trail, a one-mile walking path, lots of picnic tables, and even some camping spots. Plus, the Pecan Bayou just got added to the Texas Paddling Trails. There is so much to do and see. You don’t want to miss Riverside!

Coggin Park

Coggin Park is another one of the most popular parks in Brownwood. Coggin Park has lots of cool facilities that appeal to many people’s interests. It features tennis courts, baseball/softball fields, a nice playground, a basketball court, exercise stations, an inline hockey court, a pecan orchard, a sand volleyball court, soccer fields, and a half mile walking path. Coggin Park is a great place to go and play a sport or just get your daily exercise in while you get some vitamin D. 

Lake Brownwood

Lake Brownwood is the perfect place to fulfill your adventurous side. A 30-minute drive from the HPU campus, Lake Brownwood State Park features many activities to pique lots of people’s interests. The lake is the perfect place to catch a fish, go for a swim, paddleboard, jet ski, or kayak. On land there are over six miles of hiking trails, lots of wildlife to check out, and many beautiful picnic spots. Lake Brownwood State Park often reaches capacity because it is so popular. Fulfill all your adventures at Lake Brownwood!

Flatrock Park 

Flatrock Park is another awesome place to check out Lake Brownwood. Flatrock park features great swimming in the lake, fishing areas, kayak rentals, sand volleyball, and a store that sells good burgers. It is the perfect place to spend a spring or summer day hanging with friends and swimming in the lake or playing games.
