When students need tutoring or a little extra help with classes, they make their way to the Center for Student Success, a place dedicated to helping students succeed in many areas. Recently, the center was renamed after Bo Rozell, a beloved student and friend whose life has made a lasting impact on the campus community.
In recognition of his life and legacy, HPU’s tutoring center, the Center for Student Success, has been renamed the Bo Rozell Center for Student Success.
Rozell was involved as much as he was able to be at HPU, including Zeta Chi, a Christian fraternity, where he built some of his strongest relationships with fellow brothers in Christ. Many know Rozell for being kind, having a positive attitude regardless of his circumstances, and the willingness to share the Gospel with those on and off campus.
Kedren Penney, sophomore business management major from Tyler, one of Rozell’s best friends, said that naming the Student Success Center after Bo creates conversations and preserves his memory on the HPU campus itself.
“Any question about the name will lead directly into a conversation about Bo’s love for Jesus, his grit, and his positivity, and those are things worthy of remembering,” Penney added.
Another person impacted by Rozell’s life is Emmanuel Young, junior allied health science and sports management from Kilgore.
“Bo was an incredible person. He exemplified what it meant to love others well. He did an incredible job of not finding joy in the environment he was in, but instead finding joy in what Christ had done for him,” said Young.
“The biggest thing I learned from him was to not place my faith in the circumstances I find myself in, but to have faith even through the toughest times. Having the Center for Student Success named after him will have a huge impact on others because when they ask who Bo Rozell was, they will hear stories about the impact he had on others,” added Young.
Even while battling cancer, Rozell never stopped making an impact on those around him and showed his friends and family that no matter what trials you face in this life, joy is set before us. Bo was the perfect example that even in the hardest obstacles, God will always get the glory. His influence extended beyond the organizations he was involved in, touching students, faculty, and staff across the university.
For those who knew Rozell, his legacy is not only remembered through his involvement on campus, but through the faith, encouragement, and love he shared with others
