BROWNWOOD – January 8, 2021 – The Howard Payne University Women’s Club will host its annual Yellow Rose Scholarship Luncheon on Thursday, April 15, with area businesses and individuals serving as sponsors. The event will begin at 11:30 a.m. in HPU’s Mabee University Center.
This year, the luncheon will host three guest speakers to serve on a panel. Sarah Ramos ’20, executive assistant to the associate vice president of enrollment management, will be joined by her great aunt Minerva Delgado Lopez ’63 and mother, Anna Delgado Ramos ’90. Each of the women was very involved in various areas of student life.
As a student, Minerva was a member of El Círculo de la Amistad (Spanish Club), Texas Student Education Association and La Hora Bautista (Baptist Student Union). She retired in 2012 after spending 45 years in education and has been involved in teaching in various capacities since then. Minerva now lives in Houston and spends her free time with family.
Anna was a member of Sigma Alpha Sigma, Delta Chi Rho, choir and La Hora Bautista. She also participated in intramurals and student government and served as a student worker at Walker Memorial Library. She is a senior tax specialist for Dell and lives in Pflugerville.
Like her mother, Sarah became a member of Delta Chi Rho. She also helped with Jacket Journey (freshman orientation). She lives in Brownwood and is glad to be serving full time with the Office of Admissions, where she worked part time as a student.
Melinda Hines, HPU’s first lady and president of the Women’s Club, shared her excitement to hear from the panel of women who have such a unique shared experience.
“This is going to be a wonderful opportunity to hear from three generations of HPU women,” she said. “I’m so grateful that Minerva, Anna and Sarah are willing to share their stories with us.”
At the luncheon, two women will be recognized: the Yellow Rose Award Winner and the Yellow Rose Scholarship Recipient. This year’s Yellow Rose Award Winner will be Teri (Davis) Andrews ’83 of Houston. The scholarship recipient will be announced at a later date. Both are women who embody the Christian values and beliefs foundational to HPU and are servant leaders to those around them. The event gives women from the community and friends of HPU the chance to acknowledge these women and to contribute to the Yellow Rose Scholarship Endowment.
“It’s such a joy to host this event every year and to have the privilege of blessing a student with a scholarship,” said Hines. “We’re looking forward to seeing HPU friends and family gather in support of this year’s recipients of the Yellow Rose Scholarship and the Yellow Rose Award.”
All table sponsorships directly fund the Yellow Rose Scholarship Endowment, which will benefit female students for years to come. Those wishing to sponsor a table at this year’s luncheon can call the Office of Institutional Advancement at 325-649-8006. The deadline for table sponsorship is February 12. However, the popular event will have limited seating and those interested in attending are encouraged to reserve a table as early as possible. For more details, visit www.hputx.edu/yellowrose.
