BROWNWOOD – October 1, 2026 – Howard Payne University (HPU) hosted its annual Community Leadership Lunch and Learn Tuesday, bringing together representatives from more than a dozen area businesses and civic organizations for an opportunity to connect with each other and learn from an industry leader.
The event, held in the Bullion Suites of the Mabee Center, featured Doug Foster, principal and CEO of NovaLex Consulting, as the keynote speaker.
Foster began his career at J. Walter Thompson, where he rose to senior vice president. He later served as 7-Eleven’s first chief marketing officer (CMO) and held other CMO positions before founding NovaLex Consulting, an AI- and data-driven strategic advisory firm serving business-to-consumer and business-to-business enterprises.
“I appreciate Doug Foster taking the time to share with us at this year’s event,” said Dr. Cory Hines, HPU president. “Gatherings such as the Lunch and Learn give us an opportunity to bring people together, build relationships and create connections that benefit both the university and the community.”
Carter Sharpe of Smith and Sharpe Agencies said the annual Lunch and Learn is something his team looks forward to each year and applauded the university for providing the opportunity.
“Our office always looks forward to this gift from HPU to our business community,” Sharpe said. “Doug Foster was very insightful. He definitely helped me to redirect, focus on the road ahead and embrace change.”
JD Johnson, president and CEO of Citizens National Bank, attended the luncheon and shared his appreciation for the annual event.
“I’m so grateful to HPU for graciously hosting this event and for being such an amazing community partner here in Brown County,” he said. “We look forward to this event every year. Well done!”
