HPU social work students recognized for completing internships

The Howard Payne University Department of Social Work recently recognized six students and their internship supervisors for the completion and facilitation of the internships.

Students in the social work program are required to complete 180 hours of internship in the fall and 230 hours in the spring. Students interned with the ARK Domestic Violence Shelter, Brownwood Nursing and Rehabilitation, the Center for Life Resources, Central Texas Opportunities, Child Protective Services and Senior Care of Brownwood.

“We are so blessed to have field supervisors in our community to teach, mentor and love our students,” said Toni Damron, assistant professor of social work and coordinator of field instruction. “The field supervisors volunteer to serve and work with our students each year. Our students have learned so much under the supervision of these field supervisors.”

Social work majors honored were Jessica Catlett, senior from Alleyton also majoring in the Guy D. Newman Honors Academy, who interned with Senior Care of Brownwood; Brooke Gibbs, senior from Fort Worth, who interned with Brownwood Nursing and Rehabilitation; Lyn Norway, senior from Coleman, who interned with Central Texas Opportunities; Shantel Oplotnik, senior from Brownwood, who interned with the ARK; Marina Sheets-Ochoa, senior from El Paso, who interned with Child Protective Services; and Anna Vallejo, senior from Brownwood, who interned with the Center for Life Resources.
