Howard Payne University’s Symphonic Band will present its 24th annual “American Music Spectacular – God and Country” on Tuesday, April 30. The main concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Mims Auditorium, with doors opening at 7:00 p.m. The event is open to the public and there is no charge for concert admission. Donations will be accepted at the door on behalf of the Wounded Warrior Project.
Selections include John Philip Sousa’s “Power and Glory”; Samuel Hazo’s “Each Time You Tell Their Story,” which is a dramatic remembrance of our fallen heroes; “Eternal Father Strong to Save (The Navy Hymn),” by Claude T. Smith; and many more.
There will be a reception following the concert in the band room of the Davidson Music Complex.
The Symphonic Band is under the direction of Frank Nelson, assistant professor of music and director of bands.
“This concert event has become a popular tradition in the Heart of Texas region,” said Nelson. “We will celebrate God, who blesses this nation, the American spirit and those who have put their lives on the line to help secure our freedom and democracy. You will not want to miss this amazing night of musical celebration in honor of America and its heroes.”
