Howard Payne University’s School of Science and Mathematics prepares students to explore scientific discoveries, develop technical skills, and solve real-world problems through a Christ-centered education. With programs in Computer Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, and Natural Sciences, students gain the knowledge and practical experience needed for careers in science, technology, healthcare, education, and related fields.

The School of Science and Mathematics offers more than 10 majors designed to help students succeed in an increasingly technological world. Through classroom instruction, hands-on laboratory experiences, engineering projects, and scientific exploration, students develop valuable skills in critical thinking, research, problem-solving, and innovation. Academic programs provide opportunities to study areas such as biology, biomedical science, chemistry, mathematics, engineering, and information systems while preparing for professional careers or advanced education. Dedicated faculty members provide academic guidance and mentorship, helping students connect their interests with future opportunities in STEM. Through a combination of academic preparation, practical experience, and Christian values, the school encourages students to use their knowledge and abilities to serve others and contribute to society.

Howard Payne University’s School of Science and Mathematics brings together four departments focused on scientific discovery, technological development, mathematical understanding, and practical problem-solving. Through programs in Computer Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, and Natural Sciences, students build a strong academic foundation while exploring opportunities in research, technology, healthcare, education, and engineering.

The school emphasizes the application of scientific and mathematical knowledge through laboratory experiences, technical projects, analytical studies, and collaborative learning. Students benefit from faculty mentorship and academic programs designed to prepare them for professional careers, graduate education, and specialized fields such as medicine and other health professions. By encouraging intellectual curiosity, innovation, and responsible scientific practice, the School of Science and Mathematics prepares students to meet the challenges of an evolving world while making meaningful contributions to their professions and communities.

Guided by Howard Payne University’s Christian mission, the School of Science and Mathematics encourages students to pursue scientific understanding and technological advancement with integrity, responsibility, and respect for God’s creation. Students are challenged to recognize how their knowledge and discoveries can be used to address important needs, improve lives, and serve humanity.

Through academic study, scientific investigation, and professional preparation, students develop the skills and ethical awareness needed to make thoughtful decisions in their chosen fields. Whether working in healthcare, engineering, technology, education, or scientific research, graduates are encouraged to demonstrate Christian character, practice responsible stewardship, and use their God-given abilities to serve others. HPU seeks to prepare professionals who combine technical competence with faith-driven leadership and a lasting commitment to the well-being of their communities.

The Biomedical Science program at HPU is a rigorous option for students pursuing a health profession (medicine, dentistry, optometry, physical therapy, etc.) or biomedical research. The program requirements exceed the pre-requisites needed for most health profession programs, which helps set students apart in their graduate application process. Differences in the curriculum of this degree compared to the Biology major include the addition of physics, biochemistry, medical terminology, health professions seminar and a medical internship.

Program Mission Statement

To provide a strong foundation that develops well-educated, compassionate, integrity-minded medical professionals who will serve God and others as leaders in their professions and in their communities.

Enrichment Opportunities

Biomedical science majors will experience:

  • Medical internships
  • Skills clinics (suturing, blood draw, etc.)
  • Mock interviews
  • Mentorship experiences with local health professionals
