“Cinderella,” HPU’s Homecoming musical, to be performed two consecutive weekends

BROWNWOOD – September 30, 2021 – Howard Payne University’s School of Music and Fine Arts will perform the musical “Cinderella” at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1, and at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2, in Mims Auditorium as part of Stinger Spectacular. Performances will also be held the following weekend at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, and Saturday, Oct. 9, in Mims Auditorium.

Adapted for the stage by Jim Eiler and Jeanne Bargy for the Prince Street Players, Ltd., the musical offers a humorous take on the beloved story by Charles Perrault. The adaptation expands the role of the Fairy Godmother in a fresh look at the familiar story.

“‘Whimsical and charming’ are the key words for this hilarious spin on this classic fairy tale,” said Dr. Nicholas Ewen, associate professor of theatre at HPU. “Truly suited for all ages, it is a delight for adults and kids alike.”

Performances will run approximately an hour and 45 minutes with a 15-minute intermission. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and children. Tickets can be purchased at the event.

The cast and crew include David Ezekiel Frost, a senior from Bertram majoring in theatre; Alek Mendoza, a senior from Bangs majoring theatre education; Emily Brown, a senior from Brownwood majoring in theatre; Aleah Curtis, a junior from Bangs majoring in theatre; Mackenzie Langham, a senior from Lake Jackson majoring in strategic communication and cross cultural ministry; Isabel Dill, a freshman from Bangs majoring in theatre; Laira Card, a sophomore from Belton majoring in theatre; Krysta Bunch, a junior from Haskell majoring in theatre; Alexander Glass, a senior from Kemp majoring in theatre; Grayson Edwards, a junior from Houston majoring in theatre; Millicent Williams, a sophomore from Garland majoring in theatre; Amber Bruem, a senior from Goldthwaite majoring in English; Abigail Poling, a junior from Bangs majoring in the Guy D. Newman Honors Academy, elementary education and theatre education; Rachel Baergen, a sophomore from Rockport majoring in education; Sayde Hall, a freshman from Fort Stockton majoring in theatre; Josh Acker, a freshman from Early majoring in business; and Lunday Maninger, a junior from Brownwood majoring in theatre.
