BROWNWOOD – June 23, 2023 – Howard Payne University has recently announced Dr. Jonathan Kraemer will serve as director of bands. His 15 years of experience includes directing bands in Texas public schools, instructing in HPU’s summer Band Leadership Camp and teaching private music lessons. He most recently served as director of bands at Abilene High School.
Frank Nelson, 1977 HPU alumnus, has directed HPU bands since 2018. Nelson, who announced he will retire from the university in May 2024, will continue to serve as assistant professor of music through the 2023-2024 academic year.
“We have been blessed to have Frank Nelson lead our bands for the last five years,” said Dr. Donnie Auvenshine, vice president for academic affairs. “He loves HPU and he is well-loved and respected by the band alumni. We are excited about Dr. Kraemer’s coming and are grateful that Dr. Kraemer and Mr. Nelson will have this year together building a strong foundation for the future of HPU bands.”
