HPU personnel recognized for service during 2022-2023

BROWNWOOD – June 21, 2023 – Members of Howard Payne University’s faculty and staff were recognized for their service during the 2022-2023 year at an annual personnel luncheon held recently on campus. Dr. Danny Brunette-López, professor of Spanish and department chair, received the Outstanding Faculty Member Award. Dr. Wendy McNeeley, assistant vice president for university records and dean of general education, received the Outstanding Staff Member Award. The outstanding faculty and staff awards are made possible by Underwood’s Cafeteria and Porter Insurance Agency, respectively.

HPU’s Office of University Services received the Department of the Year Award, recognizing Wes Carroll, director of university and media services, and Erin McGibeny, coordinator of university events, for their service.

Certificates recognizing excellence in teaching were presented to Dr. Gina Gibbs, assistant professor of criminal justice and department chair; and Dr. Christopher Rosborough, associate professor of music, department chair and director of choral activities.

Certificates recognizing excellence in service were presented to Tammy Arreola, dean of students and Title IX coordinator; and Troy Drummond, head golf coach and associate athletic director of operations.

A special plaque commemorating retirement and years of service to the university was presented to Dr. Rick Beelby, professor of kinesiology and director of the Outdoor Recreation Center and physical activities courses; and Dr. Gerry Clarkson, dean of the School of Science and Mathematics and associate professor of physical science.

The following personnel also received awards:

Thirty years of service – Dr. Donnie Auvenshine, vice president for academic affairs

Twenty-five years of service – Kathy Hagood, associate professor of English; Scott Owen, assistant professor of kinesiology, department chair and director of the Elliston-Cassle Wellness Center; Diann Prickett, financial accountant/cashier; and Dr. Julie Welker, professor of communication and department chair

Twenty years of service – Martha Fothergill, coordinator of records and reports

Fifteen years of service – Tammy Arreola, dean of students and Title IX coordinator; Gretchen Campbell, executive assistant to the vice president for student experience, and cheer coordinator; and Dr. Kristen Hutchins, dean of the School of Science and Mathematics and professor of biology

Ten years of service – Roger Dewell, director of facilities

Five years of service – Ben Childers mechanical, electrical and plumbing supervisor; Dr. Dennis Gibson, associate professor of chemistry and chair of the Department of Physical Sciences; Becky Hair, senior financial aid specialist; Dr. Ben Martin associate vice president for enrollment management; Frank Nelson, assistant professor of music and director of bands; Margarita Rodriguez, custodian; and Rebekah Sterling, communications coordinator and digital content specialist
