Howard Payne University to take part in GivingTuesday on Nov. 28

BROWNWOOD – November 13, 2023 – Howard Payne University will participate in GivingTuesday on Nov. 28. The event, held the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, is a global day of giving that unites people, communities and organizations to celebrate generosity and raise support for non-profit organizations.

This year, HPU’s goal is to raise a total of $800,000 through the support of at least 450 people. Over the last four online GivingTuesdays, HPU has raised a total of nearly $2 million toward a variety of initiatives, and the annual event has become an exciting and important day in the life of the university for funding campus needs. The university is seeking support for all areas of need, including the Howard Payne Fund, student scholarships, campus improvements, academic programming, athletics and more.

Dr. Dale Meinecke, vice president for advancement, said matching gifts from HPU graduates will provide supporters unique opportunities to double their impact on this year’s GivingTuesday.

“Several HPU alumni and friends have offered to match gifts this year,” said Dr. Meinecke. “A total of $300,000 is slated for gift matching in the areas of athletics and campus improvements.”

One of the key new building initiatives on campus is an 8,700-square-foot outdoor pavilion with a commercial-grade kitchen, seating for 300 and state-of-the-art technology perfect for hosting events to positively impact the student experience and alumni/community gatherings.

Additionally, an alumni couple gave a lead gift of $100,000 to establish a new endowed scholarship and to encourage others to establish their own endowed scholarship or give in support of student scholarships.

“The way alumni and friends have already responded in support of this year’s GivingTuesday creates excitement for what could be a historic giving day for HPU,” Dr. Meinecke added. “It will take everyone’s involvement to help us meet the needs – so whether it is a gift of $25 or $25,000, every gift adds up with others to make a significant difference for our students and the campus for the glory of God.”
